History
The desire to bring a children’s museum to Moses Lake was initially developed within a group of friends – who are all parents of young children – and who saw a need within our community. As parents, we want a safe, enriching environment where we can take our children to play, discover, and learn. We tossed this idea around for years until we decided now was as good as time as any to give this adventure a try. With that in mind, The Tree Fort Children’s Museum formally incorporated as a Washington State not-for-profit in November of 2017.
In December of 2017 the Board of Directors held their first meeting.
Since then, the Board of Directors has been busy moving things along:
We have obtained our IRS 501(c)3 non-profit status
Our first community event, “Dino Extravaganza” was held on May 19, 2018. This was a huge success with 153 children and 115 adults in attendance.
We have since popped-up at the Moses Lake Farmers Market several times and at the Moses Lake Christian Church throughout the summer and fall of 2018.
We held our second large event “Snow Much Fun” on January 19, 2019 in the gymnasium at Larson Elementary. This was also a great turn out with 89 children and 51 adults.
In the Spring of 2019 we received sponsorship from Rotary of Moses Lake, enabling us so offer free mini pop-ups at local businesses and the Farmers Market.
On June 14, 2019 we popped up at the Moses Lake Air Show. This was a large event set up inside the airport terminal. Our flight-themed activities were offered for free to guests of the Air Show. For this large event the Tree Fort partnered with North Central Regional Library and Kiwanis of Moses Lake.
Also in June 2019 the Tree Fort Children’s Museum was awarded a $4000 grant from the Columbia Basin Foundation to build our exhibits and replenish supplies.
We are excited about the forward progress of The Tree Fort Children’s Museum! We will continue to pop-up around town with activities for families, and will continue our administration efforts to grow our exhibits and organization to reach the goals outlined in our 5-year plan.
